Some Autumnal Favourites

I’ve always loved autumn. It gives me a feeling of warmth and coziness, not to mention the TV shows I love make a return, I can dig out my jumpers and scarves, curl up on the sofa with a blanket and oh, eat cake.  It’s just so comforting and we all need that from time to time.  I also like to think of it as an opportunity to take stock of the year so far.  Autumn is a stark reminder that the year is soon coming to a close and I find I get a sudden surge of motivation to make things happen and to tick things off that list.

Of course, it’s also that time of the year when I get an excuse to dig out those vampy nail varnishes as well as not feel bad about wearing a warm-toned neutral eyeshadow, yet again.  So, with autumn now well and truly underway, I’m sharing my favourites that get me into that rustic, autumnal vibe.

I’m probably not the only girl who collects a variety of warm, neutral eyeshadow palettes.  I’ve got a fair few and those with the orange and red undertones, in particular, add a twist to the more traditional smokey eye look.  I’ve got a number that I’m reaching to now such as the Charlotte Tilbury Luxury Palette in The Dolce Vita, which has a stunning mix of colours.  It’s always the reddish-brown on the top right that stands out to me and I love blending it into the outer corners.

The Stila Eyes are the Window Shadow Palette in Soul is another favourite of mine for this season as it has a mix of shimmers and mattes in gold, plum and chocolate-brown tones.  You can read my review on this palette here.  I’m also trying to use those forgotten about palettes lately and I don’t really know why my Lorac Pro Palette has gone untouched up until now.  Garnet, Sable and Espresso are gorgeous autumnal shades with Taupe brilliant to blend into the crease and Gold and Champagne helping to brighten things up a bit.

For the single shadows, I always come back to my MAC Eyeshadow in Sketch for that über pigmented reddish-brown with a plum undertone.  It works beautifully in the crease, as well as the outer corners and for swatches you can see my post here.  I’ve also mentioned my love for the Charlotte Tilbury Colour Chameleon Eyeshadow Pencils before and Bronzed Garnet, in particular, is perfect as it has a golden, reddish undertone.

Autumn is when the vampy nails come out and no surprises the Chanel Le Vernis Longwear Nail Colour in the cult classic Rouge Noir takes centre stage.  For a slightly brighter and more reddish plum, Nails Inc Nail Polish in Tate is just as pretty.

It’s not only the makeup and beauty colour palette that changes.  With my summer clothes effectively stored away, the jumpers and cardigans are all within easy reach now and as always there is a lot of black, but I’m also drawn to mustard, greens and burgundy – a great way to add a splash of colour.

Talking of a splash of colour, this checked blanket scarf is a year old from Accessorize, but by far my favourite.  I love the bright fuchsia pink, navy and mustard colours in this so even when I’m feeling cold in the house and need something to warm me up, I can still look stylish!!

I do love my tea.  It’s certainly a very British thing and this “hello gorgeous” mug from H&M Home is my star buy.  I’m sure it’s for cappuccino or lattes but since I don’t drink those I make my tea in it instead and get that cafe feel at home.  I should probably throw in some marshmallows too!

Even better is a candle burning in the background.  I’ve yet to buy a Jo Malone or a Diptyque candle and instead just stick to high street buys.  As much as I love my luxury purchases, I can’t seem to justify spending a crazy amount on a candle.  This Dark Orchid & Patchouli Fragranced Round Candle Jar is only £6 from Next and is the perfect autumnal scent for the home: warm and sweet.

Lastly comes fragrance.  As the weather gets colder, I go for the more warmer perfumes but I still like those floral notes to be at the heart of my fragrance.  My two favourite autumn scents are Viktor & Rolf Bon Bon eau de Parfum, which is a sweet caramel concoction and My Burberry eau de Parfumwhich is more of a floral with a warm, candy base.  Both are not too overpowering or sickly sweet either.

So it seems like I’m pretty much set for autumn, but what about you?  What you are you enjoying this season?
