A Sunscreen For the Face I Actually Get On With

sunscreen 14072

Applying sunscreen on my face is not one of my favourite things to do.  I know how important it is but honestly if there was a way to skip it, I would.  That really isn’t an option though so I have been on the hunt for something that would work well under my foundation, doesn’t give that dreaded white cast, doesn’t make my skin feel greasy and most importantly, doesn’t break me out and I’ve finally found it in the Cane & Austin SPF 50+ Ultra Sheer Weightless Sunscreen (long name I know).

I know you get foundations and moisturisers with SPF already built in but I prefer to wear a separate sunscreen as I feel like I’m getting more protection that way.  With an SPF of 50+ this offers a very good level of protection against UVA and UVB rays and there are also a number of other skin care benefits too like antioxidants such as Green Tea, Vitamin E and CoQ10.

I think sunscreens generally do make your skin feel a bit more oily than normal and in the summer months I find that my skin behaves a bit differently, but all in all my skin reacts well to this product and nothing that a primer and a bit of blotting can’t sort out (for reference I have normal combination skin).  The colour and consistency is like milk which is what makes this product weightless so that it absorbs into the skin quickly, you can use this on top of or under your moisturiser, it sits well under makeup and as with any sunscreen, I’d recommend a thorough double cleanse at night so that your skin remains in the best condition possible.

After trying a few sunscreens for the face, I can honestly say that this is one product I do get on with and would happily wear this all year round.  It’s currently on sale in Beauty Bay so do check this out if you are interested and if you have any other recommendations then please let me know in the comments below.  x

  • Totally agree, wearing sunscreen on my face + applying makeup is not my favorite thing to do. I use one by lancaster which is SPF 50 + too

    • Yeah i know but at least we are protecting the skin in the process! x

  • Beautiful photos! I don’t actually apply sunscreen ever. I hate the consistency and how it feels on my face. Ahhh it’s a bad habit but I’m definitely picking up this one after your review! x

    • Thanks. i never used to but i think in years to come your skin will thank you for it. xx

  • I’ve tried a couple of products from Cane + Austin before and I’ve only been impressed, especially with the Anti-Blemish Pads. I like the sound of this sunscreen, so fingers crossed it’s stocked in Space NK, so I can see what it feels like before I make a purchase!

    • Oh i just love Space NK and I don’t think I’ve ever been disappointed with what I have bought from there. Fingers crossed you find this there, if not there’s always Beauty Bay. I need to try out more from the brand too. xx

  • This sounds like such a good facial sunscreen! Lately I have been trying to find a good facial sunblock, so I’ll have to try this one. 😀

I’ve heard that the SPF in foundation isn’t as good as the equivalent factor in a separate sunscreen – not sure of the science behind it but there’s some reason why! This looks like a lovely product and it’s good that it doesn’t make you super oily xxx

    • Yeah i’ve heard that too and I guess there’s only so much foundation you can put on your face! This is a great product, finally something i can get on with xx

  • I’ve never heard of this brand it sounds great! Love a lightweight face SPF.

    • Yeah, SPF definitely needs to be lightweight for me to get on with it I don’t like the heavy stuff on the face! x

Looks interesting and I’m on the lookout for another. I currently use Boots Once for the face as I like to apply in the summer months in the mooring under makeup and not have to worry about reapplying at anytime, it give great protection but the downside is that it is quite thick. I found you through the 30+ collective which is just the best idea ever. Great blog and following on insta and twitter too! Hopefully we’ll get lots of opportunities to meet in the future.

    • Thanks for the nice comments, much appreciated. This SPF is so lightweight and with SPF of 50+ i really feel like I am getting good protection. Take care xx

  • I can be terrible with sunscreens too as I hate that white cast & tacky feeling, but this summer I discovered a great option from La Roche Posay Anthelios range. This also sounds like a another great option, I’ll keep it in mind for when I run out x

  • I’m the same! I especially hate having sunscreen that gives me that inevitable white tint that screams “I have sunscreen on my face.” I usually swear by La Roche Posay sunscreens, but this sounds equally, if not even more amazing!

    • I know what you mean, that white cast is awful and makes your foundation look grey…not a good look. Luckily with this one i don’t have that problem. xx

  • I have only tried one facial sunscreen (La Roche Posay Anthelios) and I haven’t moved away from it since because I love it! SPF is so important so it’s great to find one that you get on with 🙂 x

    • I definitely get on with this one but have heard about the La Roche Posay one too, maybe next time I’ll try this one out. x

  • Great article! I love using the Clarins SPF 40, its really lightweight and doesnt clog my skin! Keep up the great work blogging! X

    • Thanks for your lovely comments. I haven’t tried the Clarins one but I have heard good things about it. x

  • Jessy Ferreira

Normally I don’t have any problems with wearing sunscreen… I find that thicker sunscreens make my face less oily-looking 🙂
This one seems very interesting either way!
Hope you have a great weekend!!

    • You are lucky you have no problems with sunscreen. Luckily with this product my skin behaves itself. Hope you are having a good weekend too. xx

  • I’m just like you, really dislike wearing sunscreen and if I know I won’t be outside for too long I do actually skip it. Last year I used Mattifying sunscreen by Eucering and it’s really good but this year I got the La Roche-Posay Anthelios tinted fluid and it’s fantastic, so lightweight, it doesn’t leave the white cast and don’t make my skin a greasy mess 🙂 I will definitely check your recommendation next. x
